Abstract

Throughout the centuries, libraries have played a vital role as repositories, preserving and providing access to documents. In today's information-centric society, where information reigns supreme, the library's role in facilitating access to and discovery of information and knowledge has become increasingly important. The rapid growth of digital content and the emergence of advanced technologies have presented libraries with new challenges in effectively managing and organizing information to meet the changing needs of users. An effective information management strategy is a crucial requirement for libraries to ensure the enhancement of resource access and discovery. This paper aims to explore the key elements of an information management strategy within the library environment, with a special emphasis on titles and abstracts. To achieve this goal, the paper elucidates metadata standards in providing a structured representation of information. It also highlights the role of indexing and classification systems, controlled vocabularies, and authority files in enhancing search and information retrieval capabilities.
