Abstract

Like many countries in the East in the second half of the nineteenth century, Japan was under the growing pressure of aggression from the Western colonial powers. With the reform, modernization and self- strengthening of the country, Japan was the only country in the Northeast Asia region managed to defend its independence and national sovereignty.
